چکیده

In order to investigate the potential relationship between serum lipid profile and renal cell carcinoma (RCC), we measured the levels of preoperative serum total cholesterol (TC), triglyceride (TG), high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C) and low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C), and correlated them with histopathological characteristics of RCC. The medical records of 382 patients with RCC who had underwent nephrectomy were retrospectively reviewed. The associations among preoperative TC, TG, HDL-C and LDL-C levels and histopathological characteristics such as tumor grade, stage and size were analyzed using logistic regression analysis. HDL-C was lower in the group with high-grade disease than in that with low-grade disease (P=0.015). Both HDL-C and TC were lower in the patients with advanced disease compared to those with localized disease (P=0.006 and P=0.005, respectively). LDL-C was lower in larger tumors (P=0.030). Logistic regression analysis indicated that high HDL-C levels were significantly associated with low-grade tumors (OR: 0.293, P=0.016) and localized disease (OR: 0.204, P=0.006). Furthermore, high TC levels were significantly associated with less advanced disease (OR: 0.660, P=0.005), and high LDL-C levels were significantly associated with smaller tumors (OR: 0.756, P=0.031). In conclusion, the results of this study indicate that serum lipid profile is associated with the histopathological characteristics of RCC.

In vivo imaging of cellular proliferation in renal cell carcinoma using 18F-fluorothymidine PET

Objective(s): The ability to measure cellular proliferation non-invasively in renal cell carcinoma may allow prediction of tumour aggressiveness and response to therapy. The aim of this study was to evaluate the uptake of 18Ffluorothymidine (FLT) PET in renal cell carcinoma (RCC), and to compare this to 18F-fluorodeoxyglucose (FDG), and to an immunohistochemical measure of cellular proliferatio...

Evaluation of Immunohistochemical Findings and Clinical Features associated with Local Aggressiveness in Basal Cell Carcinoma

Background & Objective:Basal cell carcinoma (BCC) is classified into BCC1 or low risk (nodular, superficial type) and BCC2 or high risk (micronodular, morpheaform, infiltrative, and basosquamous types) based on clinical behavior. This study attempts to evaluate immunohistochemical (IHC) findings and clinical features associated with local aggressiveness and recurrence ...

Cord Serum Lipid Profile of Infants of Diabetic Mothers

Background: Infants of diabetic mothers (IDM) is a critical issue in pediatrics, which is regarded as a major risk factor for birth trauma, respiratory distress syndrome (RDS), birth asphyxia, transient tachypnea of the newborn (TTN) and jaundice. IDM is also a risk factor for microvascular (e.g., ocular and renal complications) and macrovascular complications (e.g., cerebrovascular accident, a...

Sarcomatoid Chromophobe Renal Cell Carcinoma with Heterologous Component

Clear cellrenal cell carcinoma (RCC) is the most common malignant renal tumor in adults, while chromophobe RCC (CRCC) is the third most common. Any subtypes of RCC can undergo sarcomatoid differentiation, but heterologous differentiation in sarcomatoid area is very rare in RCC. Here a61-year male is presented with hematuria and palpable mass. Clinicoradiologically, RCC was considered and left r...
